Event Details

A chance to see the fabulous film PLANEAT, which is a huge success with screenings taking place all over the globe since its release. Having taken 3 years to make, screened in Parliament, and described as 'compulsory viewing' by the Herald and 'utterly compelling' by Empire, this is a must-see film! PLANEAT co-director, Or Shlomi, will be joining us for the whole evening and will take part in a Question and Answer session. After receiving so many accolades at our last event, That Old Chestnut will be joining us again to serve up a delicious vegan buffet. We are charging just £3 per person to watch the film and take part in the Q&A, and only £4 per person for the buffet. So if you'd like to stay for food and soak up more of the friendly atmosphere, please buy a ticket for the movie screening and the buffet. We look forward to seeing you there!

Directions: the venue is situated at the Northern Film School, which is housed within the Electric Press. Please use the entrance which faces into the Millennium Square, in between Revolution and Carriage Works (round about where it says 'Northern Film and Drama' on the map). We'll have a poster on the front door and we'll be there to sign you in on arrival. The film will start at 7pm so please arrive around 10 minutes before this in order to get seated.

Movie Synopsis

PLANEAT is the story of three men's life-long search for a diet, which is good for our health, good for the environment and good for the future of the planet. With an additional cast of pioneering chefs and some of the best cooking you have ever seen, the scientists and doctors in the film present a convincing case for the West to re-examine its love affair with meat and dairy. The film features the ground-breaking work of Dr. T Colin Campbell in China exploring the link between diet and disease, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's use of diet to treat heart disease patients, and Professor Gidon Eshel's investigations into how our food choices contribute to global warming, land use and oceanic deadzones. With the help of some innovative farmers and chefs, PLANEAT shows how the problems we face today can be solved, without simply resorting to a diet of lentils and lettuce leaves.

Green Movies

We are a new not-for-profit organisation with the intention of using the medium of film to promote and influence positive change towards a sustainable future for people and the planet. We believe that environmentally themed movies can have a powerful influence upon individuals in educating and inspiring participation in pro-environmental behaviour. We hope to use this as a forum for people to come together and talk about environmental issues in a social situation by providing a delicious and environmentally friendly buffet after the movie screening.

We always aim to include a Q&A session and/or a guest speaker to increase the event experience and to help create and expand existing dialogues. Our events support local ethical business, community organisations, charities, NGOs and environmental activists.

We will use any profit raised during the film screenings to fund complimentary events, including activities such as seed bombing, building natural bee hives, tree planting plus a range of seminars and workshops.

We hope to bring together existing networks and create new ones. Come and be a part of the movement :o)
